Artist Spotlight: KT Nelson

Written by Emma Goh

KT Nelson is a graduate student in the Sequential Art department at The Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD). She focuses on storyboarding and illustration. While her undergrad was in Film, she came to realize that she had a passion for constructing the visual narrative with storyboarding.

She has been creating since she was a kid and since she’s never stopped. Her love of film comes from the collaborative aspect and how there are many different  parts that go into telling a story. The interest of the viewers and how they are connected to the work that you can create has also been an inspiration, and viewers come back week after week with a  strong focus on the community of people that can discuss it.

Her drive to do storyboarding for animation comes from the fact that in animation you can do anything, there are no constraints practically or reality to stop one from creating. Some of her inspirations for creating within the animation world are Arcane  and Avatar the Last Airbender.

A piece of advice that has stuck with her is that It is  better to have something finished than have something be perfect, and it’s from feedback and critique in which you can really grow as an artist and keep going.
