Zachary is a Swiss American, raised in London (UK) and currently living in Mindelo (Cabo Verde).
A lot of the inspiration that comes from their work are their own experiences as a trans guy who is also gay and of mixed race (African American and Caucasian).
Zachary’s characters tend to deal with alienation and hatred.
In this particular piece, Samael, the mutated humanoid, has been beaten by the man who raised him and is being nursed to health by a young servant girl. Zachary wanted to represent that though he is being hurt, he is so used to this hatred and punishment that he finds it normal. He sees himself as deserving of pain for being who he is, something that they see in a lot of LGBT+ and Black youths.
